One of the remakes, Carrie, was recently pushed back to an October 18, 2013 release to capitalize on Halloween. That puts it a week before Paranormal Activity 5, so MGM must think they have a pretty good horror film on their hands. I suppose we will hear more about those later in the year.
We won't have to wait until October to catch the other major horror remake of 2013. Evil Dead, about the evil Book of the Dead, an ancient tome that more or less opens the gates of hell, will be coming to us on April 12. The original Sam Raimi film from 1981 starred Bruce Campbell and was criticized for being too violent. Fortunately, the producers of Evil Dead (2013) decided NOT to remake the original as a lame PG-13 snoozefest. That was nice of them. Instead, they embraced the gore and are looking to push things as far as they can for a hard R rating.
Don't take my word for it though; check out the latest trailer for yourself. It's red band, so you probably don't want to watch it in your office cubicle.
Ouch. That looks brutal. Unbelievably brutal. I wouldn't be surprised if the MPAA ratings board puts up a fight on this film. Some of that might wind up on the cutting room floor. Even adults might have a hard time stomaching seeing a girl slice her tongue in half with a knife. Or cutting off an arm with an electric fillet knife. I mean, I dig it, and I'll be there opening weekend. I just worry that the rest of you wimps might get your panties in a wad.
Think the gallons if blood being sprayed around in this trailer is too much? Let me know in the message boards or on Twitter!
